Imagine living your life on the road with the one you love. That was the story of Stacey Tourout and Matthew Yeomans, who traveled the world together and documented their journey on social media.
They went by Toyota World Runners. On Instagram they had more than 80,000 followers. Meanwhile, on YouTube they had over 200,000 subscribers who followed the videos about their adventures.
Tragically, the couple died on August 7, 2025, in a tragic crash in the Canadian wilderness. The families of the couple shared the news in a statement on Facebook. They wrote, “With unimaginable heartache, the families of Matthew Peter Yeomans and Stacey Tourout would like to advise that we lost them both tragically succumbing to injuries in an offroad accident on Aug 7, 2025 in the beautiful mountains of British Columbia that they loved so much.”
Their families added, “Please keep us and them in your thoughts and prayers as we navigate this devastating end to an amazing Love Story. They are together forever as we knew they would always be.”
The New York Post reports that the cause of the accident is under investigation. Authorities believe the couple may have lost control of their vehicle since they were traveling on rough terrain, but that has yet to be confirmed.
Mark Jennings-Bates, a manager with Kaslo Search and Rescue, spoke to CBC News about the accident. He explained that they first received a call about an offroad incident around 6:30pm. He explained, “So it was on a forestry road, somewhere in the mountains, and quite a long ways north in the valley up towards … the village of Trout Lake.”
When rescuers arrived, one person was in the vehicle with no vital signs, and the other person was outside the vehicle, “disoriented and suffering from serious injuries.” She died at the hospital that night.
Jennings-Bates explained that the vehicle had fallen about 200 meters down a rockfield. He rolled over “many, many times” on its way to the bottom.
In a statement, Jennings-Bates called the rescue “challenging.” He told CBC News, “Our teams were able to get to them efficiently. It’s a long journey, but they got there efficiently.” He added, “And of course that means that the helicopter pilot could also fly straight to the destination with confidence that he was going to find them.”
