Kate Gosselin, the former Jon & Kate Plus 8 star, has returned to her nursing career, working grueling 12-hour shifts after suffering a major financial setback.
Once a registered nurse before finding reality TV fame, Gosselin rose to prominence in 2007 with the hit TLC show documenting life with her sextuplets and twins. Following her 2009 divorce from Jon Gosselin, she continued with Kate Plus 8 and made other TV appearances, but faced legal battles, strained family relationships, and fading television opportunities.
Now back in nursing amid financial troubles, Gosselin recently shared on TikTok that she works as a home health care nurse. When asked why she returned to the demanding job, she explained it was to provide for her eight children and “College funds which I am proud to say covered all of their college and more and LAWYERS.”
“It’s Sickening but I was drug into court constantly and that costs A TON,” Gosselin said “Sad bc my kids could have a lot more saved and I could have a retirement saved if it weren’t for lawyers.”
“It’s okay. I’m helping other families and I feel needed and I enjoy helping,” the reality star concluded.
In a recent TikTok video, the 50-year-old mother of eight shared a recap of her hectic day working as a pediatric home health care nurse.
“It was another 12 hour day, and my patient and I did a bunch of things. We went all the things together. We went to a birthday party,” she explained. “We played in the water. We spent a lot of time outside. My patient wants to spend time outside, and I, of course, did all of the medical care as well, feeding, bathing and all the things.”
“And so now I work again tomorrow, so I have my dishes loaded into the dishwasher, my dishwasher running, and so I can go to bed and get up early and do it all over again,” she said.
Another fan wondered why she needed to work after years on television, but Gosselin explained that reality TV income wasn’t enough to raise eight children on her own. Lately, she’s been active on TikTok, sharing how she prepares for her nursing shifts. Her daughter Alexis even made a rare appearance in one recent video, helping pack her lunch.
According to Page Six, Gosselin’s last reality TV appearance was in 2023 on the first season of Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test, which she exited early in the first episode due to an injury. Before that, she starred in the 2019 spin-off Kate Plus Date, which lasted one season.
